Lufthansa Technik Budapest
Új Kor, Új Kihívás, Új Képlet
Lean program started with a kick-off meeting

3K - which is coming from the first letters of three Hungarian words: új Kor, új Kihívás, új Képlet (new age, new challenge, new formula) – is the name of a new improvement program of large dimensions Lufthansa Technik Budapest started this year. Companies all over the world – and in Hungary as well – have started their own programs with Lean methods and the quality management method Six Sigma. At Budapest, the final objective is to integrate these methods and tools to improve the performance of the organization.

The management of Lufthansa Technik Budapest has decided that the company needs its own unique program in order to react to the changing market requirements and to be able to meet the challenges of the future. As marked out from the title of the program, the third “K” in the name stands for a completely new and fully developed approach for non-routine MRO business that is not available in the world yet.
The 3K program of Lufthansa Technik Budapest is not just the implementation of working methods from other industries, but a program for the extension of organization efficiency with a new formula with the help of process and system improvement projects. The conception is built up to involve all the colleagues and execute a continuous improvement culture. In this way, the key aim of the program is to establish a culture where the employees take a close look at their daily work, change the evolved procedures where it is necessary and eliminate waste systematically in order to achieve higher customer, employee and proprietary satisfaction.
The 3K program has started with the revision of the company strategy. It covers four important perspectives: finances, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction and internal processes. The executive team defined objectives for the company development in the next few years. For each objective, one of the executive team has the responsibility.
The next steps which already started are to develop measurable targets for each objective, to define the problems in detail, to find the reasons for the problems and to start counteractive measures. During these steps many people from different levels of the organization and from different departments are to be involved.
Another important step was the official kick-off of the 3K program in the middle of April with the whole management team. In this meeting the 3K program chairmanship nomination took place. A different chairman will be nominated every half of a year for the improvement program. To communicate the philosophy Lufthansa Technik Budapest is going to operate a 3K training system with modules from the Lean and Six Sigma knowledge.
