C-checks performed in Budapest

August 2006

Lufthansa Technik Budapest, established in 2001 to perform heavy maintenance IL and D checks on A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, recently completed a series of Boeing 737 C-Checks for Lufthansa German Airlines. "The C-Check projects were a big challenge for us," said Pat Foley, Chief Operations Officer of the Budapest facility.
A C- Check is completely different from a heavy maintenance event with shorter turnaround times requiring different levels of support within the organization. To meet this challenge, the Hungarian colleagues created special shifts within the production organization as well as in the support organizations, such as engineering, planning and material support. "We realized that a six-day turnaround time did not leave much time to evaluate defects or order spares AOG and we also recognized that all defects had to be considered as critical and managed accordingly. Hence we prepared our organization with this short response time in mind. We were setting up special procedures with our Frankfurt colleagues, holding specific preparation meetings on-site prior to the layover start just as we would do with any other new customer."
Additionally, the colleagues at Lufthansa Technik Budapest enrolled the support and know-how of Lufthansa Technik Berlin and Lufthansa Technik Malta, the C Check experts in the Commercial Overhaul
